Get to know Florence like a local on this half-day walk and orientation to the major monuments, squares, and streets that every first-timer, and seasoned visitor will want to discover. Your passionate guide will take you beyond the bustling public squares and popular traveler hot spots to explore the labyrinth of narrow medieval streets. Along the way there are stops where we unravel mysteries around some of the cities most notorious Artists, Architects, Poets, Priests and Politicians who helped transform Florence into a center of medieval trade, finance, and one of the wealthiest cities of the time. The prosperity of Florence facilitated The Renaissance, and it acquired the nickname, "The Athens on The Arno". You will learn how the city's turbulent political history was marked by the powerful Medici family, and numerous religious and republican revolutions throughout history.
Your guide will take you on a leisurely stroll across quaint bridges, under arches, past churches and sculptures, and through markets and museums where you can trace the footsteps of famous residents like Leonardo Da Vinci and Dante Alighieri. The tour reaches its finale at the Galleria dell'Accademia with VIP entrance, skipping the line to admire Michelangelo's famous sculpture of David.
